Alright, so my dental debacle is getting more and more complex every day. Originally, I had been scheduled for a cleaning this morning and the consultation on the 2nd. However, I was called on the 29th and told that my consultation couldn’t be scheduled because it turns out the doctor wasn’t actually going to be in the office that day. Oookay. So I call them back, only to be put in touch with their answering service who proceed to tell me that the office is closed until the 2nd and I can’t deal with it until then click! They hung up on me. I wait, and on the 2nd, I try again. Answering service now tells me they’re not open yet and will be open on the 3rd click! If I had wanted to leave a message, that was just too bad, because apparently, I wasn’t allowed. Again, on the 3rd, I try only to have no one answer at all.
I went in to my cleaning appointment this morning, and Dr. K asked about the consultation. I explain to him what happened, and he and his assistants were all very surprised. Apparently, they have had problems with the answering service in the past, but Dr. Jee’s office is usually very helpful. They made sure that I would call before leaving their office (even going so far as to offer that I could use their phone) and get this straightened out. My cleaning appointment was very unpleasant (I do NOT recommend going six years between cleanings, and I now understand the importance of the six month interval), but blissfully quick. After, I called Dr. Jee (the surgeon)’s office. The receptionist asked if I was the one who had made the Jan 2nd appointment and had had problems with the answering service. I said I was, and she asked what had been the problem with the service so that they could deal with it. Then, she took a look at the schedule and asked if I could come in for a consultation that afternoon. I had nothing else to do today, so I said sure, why not. 2pm, I had an appointment for my consultation.
Dr. Jee said that my teeth look pretty good, but all four need to come out. Once they’re out, he said, the top teeth may settle themselves into place with enough room on their own, and the only ones I’ll have to worry about are the two that are sideways in front, but he didn’t seem too concerned about those either. Apparently, of my four wisdom teeth, I have one that has turned itself sideways, and the others are just coming in crooked (one’s growing towards the cheek, another slightly off on the top row and are crowding everything, and the other bottom one is growing funny, although not as bad as it first looked). We discussed getting an appointment in for the surgery for before I go back to school, rather than waiting till March. It was starting to sound like it could happen as soon as next week. And then he told me he’d had a cancellation, and could I come in for an appointment tomorrow?
So after a phone call to each parent to see if I could get a ride to the office, we scheduled my surgery for 11:15 tomorrow morning. He says the recovery will take 2-3 days, during which time I may be quite miserable. And then in a week, he wants to schedule a follow-up appointment to remove the stitches and check for any problems.
So that’s how the rest of my break is shaping up. Full of painkillers and pureed dinners and painkiller-laced sleep. Hopefully, I’ll have one of those amazingly fast recoveries and I’ll be bouncing off the walls by Sunday. At any rate, I’m going to go eat my second dinner so I won’t be hungry at breakfast tomorrow, since I’m not allowed to eat it anyways. And then, I’ll head to bed for some restful sleep (I hope) before my impending oral doom. If I bring a little jar or something, do you think he’ll let me take my teeth home with me?
