So, on Monday I had the first of my interviews of professional stage managers. I met Whitney, currently Artistic Administrator for one of the smaller theater companies in Philly, in a corner café near South Street and talked for about an hour. I was supposed to go tomorrow to observe that company’s stage manager during rehearsal and then dry tech in the evening, but the stage manager, Desiree, won’t be at the afternoon rehearsal, so we’d discussed me just going to observe dry tech.
Today at dinner, I got a phone call from Whitney asking if I’d like to come to the daytime rehearsal anyways and be on book for them. Sit in on a professional rehearsal and be helpful, too? Of course I agreed. So tomorrow, I’ll be sitting in on rehearsal and being on book for them. And then in the evening, I’ll get to see how a professional dry tech is done. Words cannot express how excited I am.
